I love the way you walk Just love the way you talk The way you hold my hand Girl I know you understand Can't think of anything else My friends say I'm fooling myself You got my head in a spin And my heart is just surrendering I love the things you wear The way you do your hair The way you kiss my lips The touch of your fingertips Can't think of anyone else My friends say I'm fooling myself You got my head in a spin And my heart is just surrendering. You got my head in a spin and I'm all turned around I feel so good, just can't get my feet to touch the ground. Well it was just one look One smile is all it took And I was so surprised When I saw that look in your eyes Can't think of anything else My friends say I'm fooling myself You got my head in a spin And my heart is just surrendering You got my head in a spin And my heart is just surrendering
2.
Yes and it's strange how luck deserts you And luck's hardly been a friend And when, you thinks you'll never get another chance Another one comes but then You miss again, you miss again And it's true, when nothing goes right Well nothing goes right at all Sometimes you seem to slip and fall You land on your feet but then You miss again, you miss again Yes and it's hard when people talk And you let it into your head And when, you think you'll never get another chance Another one comes but then You miss again, you miss again
3.
Hey You, talking to you You always said that the way was to be strong. We, yeah we can see, You push everybody around and you'll be wrong. You lie and you spin, we're not taking it in Everybody's listening to a Beautiful Loser, a Beautiful Loser She, looked good to me, She only acted herself, they put her down. And now, it always happens somehow What goes around is coming around and it's her turn. You got to look to your own, before you cast that first stone, And her only crime was to be a Beautiful Loser, a Beautiful Loser You get the one chance, one chance for real One turn around, yeah that's the deal Don't be fooled by your head Let your heart rule instead, Your heart knows the way and can't let you down. And if you play this game true You'll always win when you lose Look at him, the shape that he's in He paid his life on the line, he's a hero In the end, no one would be his friend And how did it come down to that I just don't know The world is too fast, I wanna slow down and last And I'm always falling for a Beautiful Loser
4.
Feel so lonely, can’t see your face Feeling empty now, just stare into space I wanna talk with you, see you smile I wanna walk with you, just be by your side There's just nothing half as bad Feeling like this inside, feel like this inside, feeling like this inside Feel so lonely, I can’t sleep I’m coming apart right now, this is killing me I want you to hold me, feel your touch on my skin Now I’ve got get back up and I can’t see where to begin There's just nothing half as bad Feeling like this inside, feel like this inside, feeling like this inside

Second Best 03:08
Never thought that you would go Leave me here in your empty room Never thought you’d be so cruel Heartless dear and selfish too Seems there’s nothing I can do Change your mind and pull you through You’ve been serving for way too long Ask yourself, did I do wrong? Seems there’s no way that I can win Second best is my place in line I can bring every ounce of love It can never be enough Now I’m stuck beneath you two No way up nowhere to move He’s not a god but you won’t mind You can’t break free the ties that bind There’s no way out of this that I can see No happy ending no blessed relief The chances of survival for me are so slim I’m bound to you as you are bound to him It was cold last night and the outlook was bleak The tears I cried froze hard on my cheek I’m so tired of these chains of love Your body's cold and your soul is above Your body's cold and your soul is above Yeah your body's cold and your soul is above

George 02:36
I’m just sitting alone in my white house Just by myself, being quiet as a mouse But the telephone rings. Well my head hurts from thinking and I can’t take this call I just wanna sit here, think of nothing at all But the telephone rings. Maybe one day I’ll know what to do Know what to say to make the bad things go away But I’m not so smart and it make take a while I know I’ve really fucked up and I’ve got to make it better There must be a way to make it better God help me make it better. I’ll just sit here alone in my round room Close all the windows and doors, keep out the gathering gloom But the telephone rings. I’m just sitting alone in my white house Just by myself being quiet as a mouse But the telephone rings Fucking telephone rings

Hard words, spoken in anger She’s talking back but she’s crying inside Did you stop to wonder Did you see the hurt she’s trying to hide Hard words spoken in anger Can break a heart, can bring her down And you forget to say sorry And the feeling dies and don’t you know Waking the dead isn’t easy Making it better when you hurt someone Waking the dead isn’t easy Putting it right when you done wrong Waking the dead isn’t easy And if it matters to you, you better hold on. He’s just an ordinary man He’s doing the best the best that he can And you just don’t wanna see it You want it all and you’ll take it too He’s just an ordinary man He’s not strong but he can’t let it show And you just wear him down And the feeling dies, and don’t you know Waking the dead isn’t easy Making it better when you hurt someone Waking the dead isn’t easy Breathing new life into what’s dead and gone Waking the dead isn’t easy And if it matters to you, you better hold on Didn’t know, didn’t think at all, I was hurting you Now you’re gone and it’s just too late, undo my mistake And if you get a change of heart, give us a new start I’ll remember every day, waking the dead isn’t easy Waking the dead isn’t easy, waking the dead isn’t easy.

Well I don't believe, how come you're so good to me Well I don't believe how come you're so good to me Well I don't believe I'm as lucky as I can be. Well I can't believe how come everything turned out so right No I can't believe how come everything turned out so right You're here with me, with me every night. Well I don't believe such a goody woman come my way No I don't believe such a good woman come my way Well I’m gonna believe it, you're looking here to stay. Yeah I’m gonna believe it, you’re looking here to stay

Yes I will love you Until my sun don't shine Until I can't draw breath Until the end of my time There's no conditions in this My heart is open wide I seal it with a kiss I will not change my mind

-----------------
In his sly, sunny, grin-inducing opener, Brinsley Schwarz references a landmark song from his early band days with Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm, prepping listeners that, yes, they're about to taste the melodic delights of seminal, early-70s pub rock. Yet Schwarz's record is no nostalgia trip; it's thoughtful, appealing and thoroughly moving, revealing why he's been a decades-longstanding songwriter and guitarist in Graham Parker's band, The Rumour.
Schwarz's record is so smartly structured, pairing classic folk-pop-rock songwriting with subtle musical touches, you wonder why it took him this long to go solo; it's very close in spirit to the recordings of his old bandmate Gomm over four decades. For fans who've longed for a full B.S. reunion, It turns out you could form a playlist from this record, plus Gomm's and Lowe's output of the past two decades, and swear they're grooving together again, as effortlessly as they did in the days of their sweaty roadwork.

Another record is reportedly due from Schwarz in 2021; hopefully all three gents, as well as former bandmates Bob Andrews and Billy Rankin, are enjoying the fruits of their long laboured love as much as we are. - 'Denver Listener'

-----------------
I've had the pleasure of seeing Brinsley quite a few times over the past few years, both with the GP & Rumour and as part of the Graham Parker Duo, his guitar skills are wonderful.
This album came as a complete surprise but what is not a surprise is the quality, definitely 5 stars from me - Amazon USA

Many thanks to…
Ralph Salmins, who delayed his vacation for a
few hours to come and play wonderful drums..
he was on his way to Heathrow when we called.
He put his family on a plane to Italy and then
came straight over and played just right.

Melvyn Duffy, who was jet lagged having just
got back from the US but came and played
beautiful pedal steel.

Simon Taylor who played from the heart on
George.

Andy Eales who got me started, and designed
and built me the the Roadrunner Twin, surely
the best overdrive pedal!

Al Duncan whose song title Waking the Dead'
I nicked and whose band The Beautiful Losers'
gave me the idea for the song.

Marcus Batley at dBMasters.

And especially James who did most of the
work, played great keyboards and made it all so
pleasant.

This has been a Schwarz/Hallawell production.

about

Brinsley Schwarz London, UK

It’s not everyday a band takes on the eponym of their lead guitarist. A London-based pop outfit evolved into what would become pub-rock legends Brinsley Schwarz.

Remembered for their iconic performances and forging the foundations of London’s pub-rock scene, the Brinsleys brewed up a storm throughout the early 70s, with opening slots for the likes of Paul McCartney
